Loretta Cooper - Board Chairperson

Loretta6Loretta joined the Library Board in 2005 and is currently serving her 2nd term as Chair. She and her family moved to Blackfalds in 2004 but has been in Central Alberta most of her life and is a graduate of RDC.  Loretta has always been involved in her community in some capacity and she understands the challenges that libraries face on a daily basis and appreciates the dedication it requires to  provide public library service.  She works full time as  IT Professional for a firm in Red Deer and when not working she can be found  doing a variety of activities that include reading, working out or hanging out with her teenage son, hubby and their dogs.  Aside from her library obligations, she also serves on the committee for 1stBlackfalds Scouts having been active in various scouting groups in the last 10 years.

Peter Wagstaff - Vice Board Chair
PeterPeter joined the library board in June 2010, two years after he, his wife and one son emigrated from the UK . His previous voluntary board work includes 2½ years as Treasurer of Petworth Twinning Association. He says that libraries run in his blood, his mother is a retired library assistant back in England . His hobbies include model railways, reading books and tinkering with computer websites. He has also been keeping a blog detailing the family’s experiences and observations on moving to Canada.
 
Carol Simpson - Council Member

carol3Carol joined the board in 2004 and served 2 terms as Chairperson. Carol has been a longtime user and enthusiast of libraries. She spent three years volunteering at the Stettler Public Library before she and her family moved to Blackfalds in 2001. Carol currently sits as one of two council representatives for the Town of Blackfalds. Carol enjoys being involved with The Blackfalds Field House Society and the Blackfalds & District Agricultural Society while working for a local trucking company.  Other pleasant addictions include reading, travel, running and football.

 
Richard Poole - Council Member

Richard1Richard has rejoined the board as a council representative after a six year absence. As a resident of Blackfalds since 1979, Rick, Mary and their four children have all been long time members of the library and have benefited a great deal from the programs and services available. As a board member he looks forward to being part of a dynamic and progressive team that will continue to look for new ways to keep The Blackfalds Public Library a strong community builder and provider.

Connie Ostropolski

connieConnie joined the Library Board in Dec. of 2010, after a 10 year hiatus.  She and her family have lived in Blackfalds for 27 1/2 years, and have seen many changes in the town, including the library, which has offered many benefits and programs over the years.  At this time, Connie is once again looking forward to being a part of this very vital Blackfalds organization, and assisting in its operations for the next two years.

 
Judy Carleton

Judy3Judy joined the library board in the spring of 2005 and is a long term resident of the Blackfalds area. She wrote the history book for the town's 100th anniversary, called "Blackfalds Recollections". She is also the archivist for the Blackfalds & Area Historical Society and she is very enthusiastic about preserving the history of the town and area.

 
Shirley White
ShirleyShirley joined the library board in June 2010.  She and her husband Scott & daughter Stephanie moved to Blackfalds in 2007 from St. John's, NL due to Scott's work opportunities.  They wanted to be a part of a small quiet community.  Shirley was involved in several volunteer positions in NL and wanted to find something in Blackfalds to allow her to become part of the Blackfalds community.  Shirley is also a board member of the Blackfalds FCSS.
